Design Research, Strategy
With a younger generation seeking alternative transportation options, the market for bikes in urban centers was growing. To capture it, Specialized needed to step outside of its comfort zone with performance road and mountain riders, learn about the unique needs of this new audience, and offer a compelling solution.
Smiley's Saloon & Hotel
Ownership, General Management, Brand
Built in 1851 and a centerpiece of a small coastal community, Smiley’s Saloon & Hotel had fallen into disrepair. As new owners, we rebuilt 80% of the building without demolition, restoring its historical character and reestablishing it as the focal point of town, while adding full food service and an updated hotel experience.
The Roll
Design Research, Strategy, Marketing
Known for its performance race bikes, Specialized was challenged by the comfort category of bicycles. We were tasked with a complete redesign of the company’s comfort bike, and set out to design something that could meet the needs of the comfort rider while simultaneously reflecting a performance brand ethos.
